A new opportunity has arisen for an Office Manager at a specialist criminal defence practice based in the City of London.

The firm is medium sized with a mixture of in-house staff and consultants specialising in criminal defence and extradition work. Both privately funded and legally aided work is undertaken.

Key responsibilities:

  • Human resources management (personnel files, sickness and holiday records and training records)
  • Directly supervising admin team and conducting appraisals
  • Supporting the Directors in the smooth running of the firm
  • Liaising with the Consultant Solicitors to meet their needs
  • Updating policies, plans and procedures such as the Office Manual and Accreditation documents
  • Induction of new staff and maintaining personnel files
  • Sourcing training courses and arranging bookings
  • Sourcing office equipment and arranging contracts where necessary
  • Maintaining all office records
  • Liaising with our IT providers and ensuring the smooth running of IT with our staff
  • Attending Management meetings to provide updates, reports and input
  • Updating and maintaining the company website
  • Liaising with suppliers and outside agents
  • Providing back-up for admin staff with taking calls to the office and dealing with any issues arising
  • Meeting and greeting clients
  • Receiving and receipting payments, invoices and post/DX
  • Processing work of solicitors, data inputting and drafting routine letters to clients
  • Opening case files
  • Monitoring work through our Case Management System [Bullseye]

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of managing an office in a legal practice
  • Able to work under pressure and liaise with a wide range of people
  • Excellent co-ordination and ability to multi-task

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience and knowledge of the workings of a criminal Legal Aid practice
  • Experience of CRM6 Legal Aid billing
  • Experience of working with a legal Case Management System
  • Initial Fixed term contract of 6 months with good prospects of longer term employment for the right candidate.

The role is Monday - Friday 9.00 -17.30 a 6 month contract with the possibility of it turning into a permanent position.
